(Dec. 22, 2010) — The GRAMMY Foundation® (www.grammyfoundation.com) today announced that GRAMMY Camp® — its signature music industry camp for U.S. high school students — will be held in both Los Angeles and New York in summer 2011. Held for the past six years in Los Angeles, the program is expanding to the East Coast to reach a broader range of students. Applications are currently online at www.grammyintheschools.com and the deadline is March 31, 2011. Financial aid is available and approximately 70 percent of GRAMMY Camp participants who have applied for financial aid have received assistance. Students are able to apply to either or both sessions of GRAMMY Camp, and there is discounted tuition for participation in both sessions. This program is supported in part by Best Buy, Converse, and the Hot Topic Foundation. Applications for paid positions as GRAMMY Camp counselors for young people ages 21–25 are also available online at www.grammyintheschools.com.

"I would encourage any U.S. high school student interested in exploring a career in the music industry — whether as a performer, a producer, a songwriter, a journalist, an engineer or a promoter — to apply to one or both of our GRAMMY Camps," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy® and the GRAMMY Foundation. "Everything about this unique experience, from the collaborative nature of the creative exchange among campers, to the extraordinary hands-on instruction they receive from GRAMMY®-winning artists and industry professionals, is designed to provide insights, skills and a real-world perspective on what it's like to work in the music industry. Every music person I speak to about GRAMMY Camp says, 'I wish they had something like this when I was young'; it's simply that impactful a program."

"This is an ideal moment for us to expand GRAMMY Camp to New York," said Kristen Madsen, Sr. Vice President of the GRAMMY Foundation. "Having an anchor for GRAMMY Camp in NewYork gives more students the chance to attend, and provides a convenient location in a very dynamic music market. Both sessions are taught by top music professionals from multiple recording industry disciplines."

GRAMMY Camp L.A.: July 9–18, 2011
The program offers selected high school students an interactive 10-day residential summer music experience. Focusing on all aspects of commercial music, this unique opportunity provides instruction by industry professionals in an immersive creative environment with cutting-edge technology in professional facilities. The program offers six music career tracks: Audio Engineering; Concert Promotion/Production; Electronic Music Production; Music Journalism; Songwriting; and a performance track for Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keyboard, Vocal, and Winds & Strings. All tracks culminate in media projects, CD recordings and/or showcase performances. GRAMMY Camp L.A. will be held at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and other professional venues throughout Los Angeles.

GRAMMY Camp N.Y.: Aug. 2–8, 2011
GRAMMY Camp N.Y. is seven-day residential program for high school students that will be held in New York. It offers campers the opportunity to work in integrated industry teams consisting of three fields: Music Business & Production; Singer/Songwriter, and Performance — Instrumental Or Vocal. This real-world, hands-on environment will involve an in-depth look at the entire creative process from the first spark of original material through the promotion of a finished product, and will culminate in a launch party at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square.

The GRAMMY Foundation® was established in 1989 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture — from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals. The Foundation accomplishes this mission through programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the general public. The Foundation works in partnership year-round with its founder, The Recording Academy®, to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our rich cultural heritage. Campbell's Labels For Education program is proud to be the official education partner of the GRAMMY in the Schools programs.
